Originally we were booked to go out camping in beautiful Kananaskis, beginning today and ending just after Canada Day, but due to flooding and mudslides, we’ve had a change of plans. Luckily, we have farmland where we can still take the kids for a fun camping trip, otherwise the boys would have been SO disappointed! I had planned on making these cute DIY night lights as a camping activity for Canada Day, but realized we should probably make one ahead of time so I can share it on my blog.

With all of the crazy flooding that has been happening in southern Alberta, my home city of Calgary included, I almost forgot that Canada Day long weekend is coming up. We had planned on celebrating Canada Day camping and biking in serene Kananaskis Country, but sadly they too have been ravaged by floods and mudslides :(. This has truly been a devastating past few days, so to help get my mind off of the grave current events, I decided to do a Canada Day craft with my boys. When I stumbled across this blog post on Pinterest, I was inspired to create our own Canada Day, keepsake T-shirts.

Swatting Sight Words!

Swatting Sight Words!

I am still trying to absorb the devastating affects this flood is having on our city of Calgary and in southern Alberta. Seeing the bleak pictures and aerial images of homes and familiar restaurants, shops and pubs submerged in murky water, roads and bridges being consumed and washed out, and our beloved zoo engulfed in a muddy, brown lake has been absolutely surreal. Luckily, our home is on high ground, away from the rivers, but the sadness I feel for my city and the surrounding areas is overwhelming. Albertans are kind, compassionate, resilient, and hardworking, so there is no question we will get through this together. As a Calgarian, I am so proud and grateful to all of the emergency response workers, and to our dedicated mayor, Naheed Nenshi, for their outstanding and tireless efforts to keep our fellow Calgarians safe and cared for. THANK YOU!

It has been EXTREMELY wet here the past few days, so much so that many areas in southern Alberta, including Calgary, have declared a state of emergency! Luckily, there has been no flooding in our area, but all this rain has definitely made it more challenging to keep my bugs occupied indoors. Today I raided my craft stash and set up a sticky wall for the boys to create a unique art piece together.

Game of Thrones Broquet

Game of Thrones Broquet

Father’s Day is coming…

I wanted to make up some broquets for my husband and brother-in-laws for Father’s Day, so when I came across these Game of Thrones beer steins  I knew they would make the PERFECT vessels! My siblings and their families often come to our house for games night, and one of the board games we enjoy playing is ‘A Game of Thrones, the Board Game’. All of us are hooked on the HBO series, and it often comes up in conversation when we’re together. I already had all of the treats handy (I bought a few items in bulk from Costco, and managed to make 11 gift baskets from them!) so it was just a matter of printing off some pictures and arranging everything together in the steins.
