A couple of days ago my bugs made some LOVEly heart paintings. M used a heart shaped cookie cutter to stamp his paint onto black scrapbook paper, while B finger painted over top of a heart cutout I had taped to the centre of his black paper.

We decided to spread the love today by making and mailing some Valentines to some very special people. Before getting started I read M a couple of the Valentine’s Day books he had picked out at the library, to help him understand what we were doing, and why.

The boys have played this letter hunt/ word building game multiple times during the past week. There’s just something about search-and-find games that kids love, and my boys are no exception! I chose to make this into a literacy game to help with M’s spelling and word recognition. B really liked this game too, and was a big ‘help’ in locating all of the little hearts.

I whipped up these treats while M was at preschool today. Not only are they cheap, quick, and easy to make, but I’m pretty sure they will be enjoyed MUCH more by his classmates than those generic, store bought valentines that get looked at once and then chucked into the recycle bin the next day.
