Earlier this week, the boys and I had a whole day full of rainbow activities and experiments. The boys enjoyed learning about the colours of the rainbow so much, I thought I would extend it a bit further by introducing a rainbow sensory bin, and incorporating a literacy activity for M as well. The boys have played this letter hunt/ word building game multiple times during the past week. There’s just something about search-and-find games that kids love, and my boys are no exception! I chose to make this into a literacy game to help with M’s spelling and word recognition. B really liked this game too, and was a big ‘help’ in locating all of the little hearts.

After returning from a trip to the zoo, I figured it was the perfect opportunity to focus on the letter Z. We started off by brainstorming different words that start with the letter Z, such as: zoo, zebra, zap, zipper, zip, etc. Then I cut out the letter Z from some textured, zebra print, scrapbook paper and had M glue it onto a piece of cardstock.

Since visiting the Spark Science Centre, I thought it would be a lot of fun for the boys to have their own light table to experiment with at home. It wasn’t until we were reorganizing our basement, and getting rid of some clear plastic tubs, that I was actually inspired to make one. I came up with a simple design and soon after, as I was congratulating myself on my clever ingenuity, I decided to Google ‘DIY Light Table’… my ego was instantly deflated. Evidently I was not the only one to come up with this brilliant plan, as you can see here, and here (just to highlight a couple). Haha! Oh well, it was still a HUGE hit with my little bugs 🙂
