The weather has been pretty unpredictable these past few days: warm and sunny, cold and rainy, and even some large fluffy snowflakes (sometimes all in one day!) M doesn’t seem to mind though. No matter what the weather is, he’s just happy to be outside!

Guess the Farm Animal
I wanted to teach M the importance of farms and how the animals that are raised provide us with food and other products in our daily life. I found some pictures on the Internet and glued a barn onto a piece of card stock, making sure to cut the doors so they swing open. Then I turned the ‘product’ cards over and, for each card M selected, he had to guess which animal it came from. Click on the link animalsproduce for a copy of the pictures I used for this activity.
Read MoreAround the Farm
M loves to explore, especially around Grandpa’s farm. He is fascinated by the cattle, the wide open space, and the rumbling machinery. With this in mind, I though it would be fun to focus on some farm activities at home.

Today M and I focused on the sound-to-letter correlation of the letter E. He knows E is a happy letter because when you say it’s short sound, your lips form into a smile. I printed off some pictures of things that start with the letter E, and then cut out the letter E from some card stock.
M started by verbally labeling each picture. The second time he labeled them, I had him exaggerate the initial sound, and then say what letter each object starts with (eg. ‘elk, /e/- elk starts with E’). He grasped onto this quite quickly.
My Bugs’ iPad App Picks
M really enjoys playing games on the iPad, sometimes a little too much… But like everything, moderation is key. I think the iPad is a wonderful learning tool for kids and adults. It’s a fun, engaging, and interactive way to practise and develop skills in literacy, math, fine motor skills, colours, music, science, and more.
