My bugs and I went to the library today and one of the books M chose was Sneezy the Snowman, by Maureen Wright. This is a really cute rhyming book about a snowman who just can’t seem to warm up. Sneezy tries many things to keep himself from shivering from the cold: drinking hot cocoa, soaking in a hot tub, even standing by a fire; but just as he starts to feel warm, Sneezy melts and the children have to rebuild him. Finally, the kids come up with a solution that allows Sneezy to stay warm without causing him to melt.
Melted Snowman Pictures
This picture book reminded me of an art activity the boys and I did last April after a huge snowfall. After going outside and building a real snowman in the backyard, my bugs came inside and made melting snowman paintings.
I loved how these melted snowman pictures turned out! We used a mixture of equal parts shaving cream and Elmer’s glue, which was not only delightful to play with, but it also dried puffy to resemble fluffy snow.
Then the boys stuck some pre-cut construction paper shapes onto the puffy paint: a black hat, buttons, sticks for arms, and black circles for the eyes.
Even though they were both given the exact same materials, M and B’s pictures turned out quite different!
Stay tuned for more winter picture book activities!
Thanks for stopping by!
