The boys and I have been having a lot of fun experimenting with the DIY light table we made a while ago. To check out how to make your own easy light table, and for some additional fun and educational activities you can use the light table for, click here.
Here are some activities we have used our light table for in the past month:
Coloured Ice
The boys had so much fun playing, and experimenting with coloured ice cubes on the light table. They mixed multiple colours together, and learned about the melting process as the ice transformed from a solid into a liquid. Another interesting idea is to give your kids some salt to add to the coloured blocks so they can see how salt lowers the freezing point of water, and therefore melts the ice quicker.
Colourful Feathers
I had a few colourful craft feathers and animal cookie cutters that I thought the boys might like to experiment with as well.
Rainbow Pasta
The boys also played with some rainbow pasta, which I had made earlier on in the week for a sensory bin. To make rainbow pasta all you need is a variety of different pastas, food colouring, ziplock bags, and vinegar. Put some pasta into one of the bags, add a few drops of food colouring and a teaspoon of vinegar, then shake well, making sure each piece of pasta has absorbed the desired colour. Then spread your pasta out on a baking sheet to air dry for a few hours.
So far the light table has been a hit around our house! What sort of interesting things have you experimented with using your light table?
