This is a simple holiday craft made out of left over party hats from M’s 3rd birthday. Sorry for the blurry photo! I haven’t quite got the hang of how to take no-flash night photos.
Materials:
- paper party hats or construction paper made into cone shapes
- hole punch
- tissue paper
- pom-poms, glitter glue, pipe cleaners (and whatever else you want to decorate your trees with)
- white glue
- flameless tea lights
Punch holes in the party hats using the hole punch (pinch the hat together in places to punch two holes at a time)
Mix a small amount of white glue with some water in a bowl to create a watered-down adhesive
Tear up pieces of tissue paper so it is easier to apply to the hats
Paint the tissue paper onto the hats with your glue mixture (you may need to add a few more layers if your party hats have dark colours)
Then wait for them to dry
Once they are dry you can start decorating! I bought our glitter glue from the dollar store.
This turned out to be a great activity to reinforce M’s fine-motor skills as well: tearing, painting, squeezing the glitter glue tubes, and picking up and pressing on the pom-poms were all great activities to help strengthen the muscles in M’s hands.
When the glue has dried, place a flameless tea-light underneath each tree, turn off the lights in the room, and watch your Christmas trees magically light up!
