My bugs wanted to make a gift for their Daddy and their two Grandpas for Father’s Day. I came across this sweet card from Chasing Fireflies and, being a huge sucker for handprint keepsakes, I decided to create something similar.
Materials:
- 11X17 Frame
- coloured cardstock paper
- Handprint Template
- black tempera paint
- sponge brush and paper plate for paint
- printer
Father’s Day Handprints Keepsake
I started by asking my bugs a series of questions about their Daddy, Papa, and Grandpa, and recorded their answers. My questions consisted of:
- What is _____’s full name?
- How old is ____?
- How tall do you think ____ is?
- How much do you think ____ weighs?
- What is ____ good at? What is his job?
- What does ____ enjoy doing?
- What do you like doing with _____?
- What is ___ favourite food?
- What is ____ favourite colour?
- If ____ could buy anything in the world, what would it be?
- If ___ could travel to any place in the world, where would he go?
- What are three words that describe ____?
Some of their answers were really sweet, while others were pretty ridiculous!
Once I had their answers recorded, I typed them out in sentence form using the Handprint Template I created. I printed the sentences onto coloured cardstock paper and cut around the template.
Next, using the same Handprint Template, I typed in the names of each of my children, along with his/her age, at the bottom of the template and printed them onto coloured cardstock paper as well. I used a different colour for each of my kids.
To finish off our project, I painted each of my bugs’ hands black and had them make a print above his/her name on the cardstock paper.
I taped each section onto the inside board of the frames, and we were finished!
A perfect, heartfelt gift from my kids to the special dads in their lives.
Of course, this project is easily adaptable to accommodate any number of handprints, you just need to rethink the frame and template size :).
