Well, Hallowe’en is over, now what to do with our left over jack-o-lanterns? We could just wait for them to rot, leaving them outside until their moldy, ghastly carcasses freeze to the steps, and then throw them away once the stench becomes too unbearable as they begin to thaw… but that’s no fun! So why not use them as part of a classic science experiment instead? When I saw this post from Growing A Jeweled Rose on Pinterest, I knew I had to try it!
I told M that our jack-o-lantern was feeling really sick from eating WAY too much candy yesterday. Meanwhile I had already put a few heaping spoonfuls of baking soda inside of the pumpkin. I had M add some green food colouring while I poured some vinegar into a measuring cup. By now you’ve probably figured out where this is headed, right? The ol’ erupting volcano trick, only with a jack-lantern!
An unsuspecting M slowly began pouring the vinegar inside of our jack-o-lantern…
It may seem ridiculous, but M LOVED it! He wanted to do it over and over again. Typical little boy 😉
