M has been working on spelling his name and a few small words such as ‘cat’, ‘dog’ and, more recently, ‘snow’. I thought it might be fun for him to do a tactile word-work activity using snowballs (small, balled-up pieces of a cotton ball).
I put white glue on each letter as M said it’s sound while sticking the snowballs on.
When he had finished building the word ‘snow’ M wanted to make another snowball word, so I had him sound out the word ‘cat’ as I wrote it on the paper.
This would be an easy center for the classroom (I would opt to use gluestick to make it less messy in that case) during a winter theme.
