June is a very busy time of year! Everyone is wrapping up and shifting gears to prepare for a smooth transition into summer. I know there’s a lot to do, but in your scramble to get everything checked off your To-Do List, don’t forget to say ‘thank you’ to those special people who have dedicated their time and energy to brighten your child’s day, and to fill their inquisitive minds with knowledge and wonder: teachers, aides, strategists, coaches, and caregivers. A simple card or verbal ‘thank you’ to show your gratitude is really all you need, but a small gift is always nice too!

This was M’s first year of preschool, and I wanted to get his teachers a gift to express my appreciation for all the effort and enthusiasm they’ve infused into each day. M truly loves preschool, and I know he is really going to miss all of his new friends and teachers over the summer. I’m so happy he was fortunate to have a great team of people working with him to help reinforce a love of learning in such a warm and positive environment.

Gift cards are a nice idea, but I always get strung up on how much to give. It’s tricky because you don’t want to seem too cheap, and yet you don’t want to go overboard either, especially if you have one or more teachers, teacher’s assistants, and/or strategists to think of… it can all add up quite quickly! This is why DIY gift baskets are a great option. You can tailor them to fit the interests of the receiver, and you can do it relatively cheap by buying items in bulk and using them in a variety of different gift baskets.

Teacher Gift Basket

For our end of year teacher gift baskets, I took the boys to Costco where we purchased some oversized, luxurious beach towels for around C$16. These towels are not only lovely to look at, but they are incredibly soft as well! They have a few different types of colours and designs to choose from.

In addition to the beach towels, we also purchased some bulk snack items, such as: gum, Angie’s popcorn, and some lollipops. I would have bought all of the candy from Costco, but I had made a previous trip to Dollarama to pick up baskets and Go-Cups, and I had already purchased some Lifesavers and Riesen chocolates from there. I was able to use the gum, popcorn, and lollipops as part of my Father’s Day broquets, and as part of the thank-you gifts for M’s soccer coaches. Buying in bulk is a really economical way to create many different gifts for a variety of occasions!

To put the gift baskets together I just folded up the beach towels and stuffed them inside so they poked up the backside a bit. Then I nestled the Go-Cups, popcorn bags, candy, and gum into the towel. I tied the lollipops together with a pretty pink ribbon, and M made a butterfly handprint card for the finishing touch! If you want to, you could also add in some sunscreen, magazines, lip gloss, nail polish, or a good book. For male teachers, you may decide to add in some peanuts, beef jerky, BBQ sauce, sunscreen, BBQ mitts, and/or magazines (and of course a more ‘manly’ bold print towel).

Each teacher gift basket came to roughly C$25 (the beach towels being the most expensive part of the gift) which is pretty reasonable I think.
