Life has been pretty busy since the arrival of our third baby (Miss A), which is one of the reasons why I’ve really dropped the ball in regard to updating my blog. I’m looking forward to summer when our lives won’t revolve around pick-ups, drop-offs, piano lessons, soccer, and homework. As busy as we may feel, my bugs and I have embraced the arrival of spring and all of the beauty that comes with it: trees and flowers budding and beginning to bloom; plump robins hopping around the yard; sweater weather; bike riding; puddle jumping; and the fresh, earthy scent after a thunder shower.

A few weeks ago I was watching some finches flitting from branch to branch, when I suddenly had the desire to create something with my bugs. When I mentioned the idea of making bird pillows to M, he had an even better plan: Angry Birds pillows!

As my bugs and I were getting ready to decorate eggs for Easter, I embraced a teachable moment by asking them whether they thought eggs were strong or weak. With little hesitation, both M and B replied that eggs were definitely weak. They’ve helped me in the kitchen numerous times, and cracking eggs is by far their favourite culinary skill (other than tasting of course), so they thought my question was a bit bizarre. Of course they’re weak mom! We’ve broken dozens on the floor… They didn’t believe me when I told them that eggs are actually very strong, so I challenged them to try to break an egg by squeezing it between their hands.

New Year’s Tree

As I was taking down our Christmas decorations, I decided to keep our tree up a bit longer and have the bugs decorate it as a New Year’s tree. They stuffed the branches with noise makers, New Year’s Eve crowns and hats, feather boas, balloons filled with mini prizes, and all of the lovely Christmas cards we received from our friends and family.
