When I was rooting around in my closet I came across a few extra white mugs I had recently purchased from the dollar store for the DIY painted mugs my boys and I made as Mother’s Day gifts. I decided to use the leftover mugs as an extra gift from the boys for their daddy, Grandpa, and Papa. Originally, I wanted to put M and B’s handprints on each of the mugs, but B was being less than cooperative. For some reason, he refused to let me paint his hand, but he was more than willing to let me take a print of his foot! A footprint may seem odd on a mug, but it still makes for a cute keepsake.

To create these mugs I used:

  • white mugs from the dollar store (I bought ours from Dollaramma for $1.25 each)
  • gloss enamel paint (purchased from Michael’s)
  • a foam brush
  • black paint pen (purchased from a set from Michael’s)

I painted M’s hand, and B’s foot, using a foam brush, then made prints on either side of the white mugs. When the paint dried, I painted a red heart on the prints, outlined the hearts with the black paint pen, and wrote the boys first initial on their corresponding prints.

To set the paint, I baked the mugs for 30 minutes at 275°F in a non-preheated oven on a baking sheet. I recommend washing the mugs by hand, as the paint may wear off over time in the dishwasher.
