This morning Bob, our Elf on the Shelf, showed up with homemade puzzles made from popsicle sticks and holiday cards!

Elf on the Shelf

Each puzzle had letters on the back of the popsicle sticks that M had to put in the correct order to spell a word and make the picture. I told him what words he was spelling beforehand so he could sound them out and find the right letters. If you were doing this with older kids you could just have them try to unscramble the words on their own as they build the puzzle to make it more challenging.

Here’s how you make them:

Then use an exacto knife to cut the popsicle stick puzzle pieces apart

Lastly, print letters on the back of each stick to form a word (I used M’s name, the word ‘snowman’, and letters of the alphabet for M to put in sequential order)

This was a simple, fun and effective way to get M excited about spelling!
